Valle Santa

map of the birdwatching path   The route Valle Santa covers the whole perimeter (about 8.5 km) of this beautiful fresh-water lagoon.
From the entrance, go southwards until you get to the shielded paths that allow visitors to observe the birds resting on the wet meadows skirting the lagoon: here it is possible to see Spoonbills, Squacco Herons, Night Herons, Teals and Shovelers, Black-winged Stilts and Black-tailed Godwits.
The route then continues along the vast reed-beds above which circle the Marsh Harrier, and from which you will hear singing Warblers and the calls of Water Rails, Spotted Crakes and Little Crakes. Go along the bank of the stream Sillaro and follow the bank of the marsh outskirting the Bosco del Traversante wood, seat of a wonderful Heron nesting site. From among Willows and Poplars - which are peopled by Penduline Tits - you will have a wonderful view over the marsh, with its reed-beds peopled by Herons and its wide lamineti (areas dominated by Water-lilies) above which flies the Whiskered Tern.
