The path, about 9 kilometres long, starts from the Foce Fishing Station. Turning left, the path leads to Valle Uccelliera, a brackish lagoon peopled by flocks of different duck species, especially in winter and during migrations. Further on, the route gets to the Salt Pan in Comacchio, where it is possible to observe a number of Sand birds; this is a nesting site for many Gulls and Terns, as well as the seat of the largest Flamingoes colony in Italy and of the country's only Spoonbills colony. Turning right from the Foce Station, on the other hand, the route follows the Fossa Foce bank which heads towards Valle Zavelea (5 km). This is where the most important species of the Valli di Comacchio can be observed. At the end of the path, in Valle Zavalea, a small tower allows visitors to observe the lagoon with its vast reed beds (where the Marsh Harrier nest) and its muddy parts, a favourite nesting site for Common and Little Terns, Gull-billed Terns and for the rare Collared Pratincole. Finally, from the Foce Station, it is also possible to make a tour of the lagoons by boat, which leads to old fishing lodges and which allows interesting observations. The route continues along the northern part of Valle Fossa di Porto, where a number of hills house large colonies of Charadriiformes. Valle Furlana: from Boscoforte to Volta SciroccoValle Furlana is the southern part of Valli di Comacchio and one of the Italian "sanctuaries" for bird-watching. Flamingoes, Spoonbills, Purple herons, Cranes, Shelducks, Caspian Terns, Ospreys and Spotted Eagles are just some of the rare species that can be observed along this impressive itinerary. Valle Furlana can be reached with a charming ferry-boat tour along the river Reno, starting from Sant'Alberto - seat of the Park Visitor Centre. |
