On the Wings of Black-winged Stilts Setting off from Comacchio towards Ostellato, go along a stretch of SP road and turn right on the bridge leading to the reclaimed lands; following the road signs to Anita (Valle Zavelea is worth a visit), you will reach the enchanting Argine Agosta bank that skirts the Valli di Comacchio lagoons. Shortly before reaching Anita, turn left towards the southern area of the Valli. Valli di Ostellato. Following the SP road leading to Ostellato and running along the side of the navigable canal, you will easily reach the Vallette of the same name (tel. 0533 680376): an extremely charming nature sanctuary offering several visit opportunities. Lagoon Water Reflections The route throughout the southern part of the Valli begins shortly before Anita. If you head on foot or by bike towards the Mouth of the river Reno, you can follow the bank of the river Reno. The area is a real birds’ paradise: there are Flamingos, Herons, Avocets, Slender-billed gulls and Mediterranean gulls. The landscape is really charming and offers interesting naturalistic corners with views between water and sky, between the lagoons and the river. The World of the Eel You can discover the world of the eel on foot, by bike, or by boat. Nature, environment, and history are intertwined with the fishing tradition: you will realise it after visiting the fishing lodges called “Casoni di Valle” – Serilla, Coccalino, Pegoraro – which have been brought back to the original structure. At the beginning of the route, in Stazione Foce, you will find a documentation centre presenting the environmental features of the site through photographic panels and audio-visual aids.
