THE WOODS

The woods in the territory of the Park can be divided into three broad categories: thermophilic woods, hygrophilous woods and pine forests. The first are characterized by a Mediterranean vegetation, they stretch along the coastal area and are mitigated by the maritime climate. The tree species that is typical for this type of wood is the Holm Oak (Quercus ilex), which alternates with areas where the predominant structure is the shrub. The most representative example of this type of wood is Gran Bosco della Mesola. Hygrophilous woods are in the most internal area, in  floodplain areas or near freshwater valleys. These areas are mainly covered by trees such as the White poplar (Populus alba), the White Willow (Salix alba) and the Common Elm (Ulmus minor). Some examples of this type of wood on the territory of the park are the Traversante wood near the Valleys of Argenta and Marmorta and Punte Alberete in the Ravenna area.
