Regional Law of December 23, 2011, no. 24 “Reorganization of the regional system of protected areas and of the sites of the Natura 2000 network and establishment of the Regional Park of Stirone and Piacenziano”

By passing the regional law of December 23, 2011, no. 24 “Reorganization of the regional system of protected areas and of the sites of the Natura 2000 network and establishment of the Regional Park of Stirone and Piacenziano”, the Emilia Romagna region intended to reorganize the regional system of protected areas and of the sites of the Natura 2000 network, rationalizing  the system of management of competences, which used to be of the province and which now are of the Park managing bodies, regulating the organization and management activities of the park through the approach of the so-called “greater area”.

In this way, the whole regional territory was divided into areas with homogenous geographical and naturalistic characteristics, defined as “macro-areas for parks and biodiversity”, which include parks and nature reserves that had been previously established (map of the region). A new public authority was set up for each macro-area, the Managing body for Parks and Biodiversity – Po Delta was set up for the Po Delta area, replacing the Consortium of the Regional Park of the Po Delta in its administrative, accounting and technical functions, with a territory of competence that can be seen in the map of the Po Delta macro-area.
